Jerald "Chip" Elliott
/ADBR
I was born on July 6, 1954, and graduated from PeEll High School. I went into woods logging in 1973 and worked my way from the rigging to running equipment. I started out running log loaders in the late 70's and in the early 80’s went to running a feller buncher falling timber. In 1985 I started shovel logging, and in the early 90’s I started running processors, falling, bucking, limbing and bunching trees.
My involvement with the Union started in the late 70’s. My Dad was always involved in the Union as a committee man, and I was raised in a Union environment. I was a third-generation logger all of us working in the woods at the same time. I served on the committee in the late 70’s, and I was committee chair for several years before becoming a local Business Representative in 1997 for Local W130 in Centralia Washington.
In 2004, I became a District Representative for the IAM Woodworkers District 1 in Gladstone, Oregon, representing the logging operations in Washington for Weyerhaeuser. These contracts are with Vail, Pe Ell, Aberdeen and Longview Woods operations. I also do the contracts for Dart Container in Tumwater, Town of Pe Ell, Mima Nursery, Railroad, Landfill, and the sorting yard in Longview, Washington.
I've also spent 18 years on the Pe Ell School Board and resigned from responsibility in 2006. I am currently the Fire Chief of Lewis County Fire District 16 and have been involved with firefighting over the last 28 years. We currently have 32 Volunteer firemen.
I have a lovely wife of 35 years and her name is Cindy, and we have three children: Greg who is 35 years old and drives a logging truck for Weyerhaeuser; Donny who is 33 years old doing carpentry work; and a daughter named Janelle at 28 years old who is a bookkeeper for her family business. We have four grandchildren: Logen 12, Maggie 9, Connor 6, and little Kaiden at the age of 14 months.
